I'll be honest, I hated THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS, except for the glossary in the back with the meanings attributed to various flowers. I was in a minority of one and I don't think people in our group quite believed I disliked the book. All I can say is, I had a visceral reaction against the main character and that was that for me. I never got over it.
Surprisingly I enjoyed THE MARRIAGE PLOT. It did bring up visions of college, and the attendant groping to establish oneself as a person. But I felt that the book, which began so well, very much dropped the focus on Madeleine, and spent too much time on the self-important Leonard and Mitchell. I would recommend, however. It's quite well written with some plot surprises along the way.
