Terrific Article on the history of book clubs

Thanks to Holly for providing this LINK to a terrific article about the history of book clubs, which were invented by women, and which have provided a way to discuss ideas, develop friendships, and discover great literature together over the centuries.

Our group began in fall of 1988, and while membership fluxuated over the years, the current group configuration has been together at least ten or fifteen years. We are unusual, I believe, in that we are somewhat geographically spread out, from San Raphael to Campbell - although Zoom
ing the meetings has been a boon this past year. (Past members who live even further away were able to join us online, and it has been a great thing.)

Compared to some groups I hear about, we are very relaxed, and the meetings also include a great meal by the month's host, at which we discuss all kinds of things besides the book. Afterwards, we not only discuss our current book, but sometimes revisit books from the past. Finally, the previous host provides book suggestions, and we have a casual voting process.

I love our group, and I appreciate the great friendships I have built there. THANKS, all! Thirty three years and counting!
