The publishing wing of our book club gave some faint praise to Amor Towle's book: THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY. On the one hand, they feel Amor is an amazing writer with an infinite imagination for coming up with plots, situations, characters etc. (We all love GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW).
On the OTHER hand (the hand we all fear!), the overwhelming feeling is that it was not a worthy followup for GENTLEMAN, and that perhaps Mr. Towle's editor was leaning on him to crank out another best seller.
Who knows? Personally I haven't finished the book (rare for me, but this past month . . . ) but I am enjoying it. Yes, I think it's a bit long. Yes, I share the dread of reading any chapter titled DUCHESS. Yes I am preemptively dreading the ending.
That being said, I think my thumb is up, and I am not actually alone in that assessment.
