We haven't had book club yet to discuss Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult. It isn't my favorite book; too much repetitious info about elephants, and this gets in the way of the story. (Disclaimer; I loved Moby Dick, including all the parts about whales. And I happen to like elephants too.)
But I could have overlooked that aspect of the book, except for a bigger problem: I just can't get into ghost stories.
The Shining comes to mind - part one was truly scary and engaging as I watched the father slowly going mad. Part 2, where all these 'real' spirits were introduced, was not at all scary for me; I thought it ruined what could have been an excellent psychological thriller.
So I found the basic premise of Leaving Time, revealed late - and to be fair - cleverly set up - to be just as deflating as I found part two of The Shining. Maybe I will try another of Ms. Picoult's books later.
